Chinese new year is a Lunar New Year festival that is a traditional Chinese celebration. This traditional celebration is meant to welcome the new and good and eliminate the old and bad. Aside from this, this time of the year is when they celebrate their ancestors, gather with friends and family, eat delicious meals, fireworks and dragon dances.

Before the new year festival, people will start to clean their houses to get rid of undesirable items and dirt. People would also begin to decorate their homes with red, symbolising good fortune and joy. The colour red is believed to repel evil because red resembles fire.

The Chinese zodiac is incredibly important for every Chinese new year. The Chinese zodiac is an influential culture that is based on folklore. Every person born in a particular year has a specific zodiac. There are 12 zodiacs, and every animal zodiac has its traits and characters. These zodiacs give guidance and advice, just like a horoscope.

The year 2022 is the year of the tiger, therefore, making this year lucky for all people with tiger zodiac signs. Tiger symbolises strength, power and lordliness.

Raffles Christian School Pondok Indah will have its Chinese new year celebration on the 28th of January 2022. The festival’s theme is “Embrace the New Year with Hope and Love”, and there will be fun competitions like the dumpling-making competition! To truly feel the Chinese new year, don’t forget to wear traditional Chinese costumes or a red shirt!
